Coach's Corner

This page is from the head coach to everyone.
It will be updated periodically for athletes, parents and volunteers.

We are not a “Travel Team” even though we will go to local away meets. Youth athletes of any ability may participate. The athletes are FIRST and winning comes second. The primary focus is on having FUN. We plan to teach and train the athletes in well defined, short increments (2-week intervals). Each athlete will progress at their own pace. The ideal training plan is the following, but will surely have weather and scheduling problems. We will do our best to follow it.

Early April - Conditioning/baseline times and distances (basically getting in shape)
Mid April - Introduction to field events and specific running events
Early May - Teach and training each athlete for his/her specific events and set relay teams. Prepare for Hershey meet.
Mid May - Add more technical aspects of events for each athlete and prepare for Junior Olympics prelim meet.
Early June – Refine technical aspects of events for those athletes that qualified for next Junior Olympic Potomac Valley Regional and Eastern Regional meets.

Athletes that place first or second in the Eastern Regional meet will qualify for the National meet. Last year, one of our athletes went to Nationals, became National Champion in her age group, and also set a new National Age-Group Record.
